This June we launched our Wine + Hiking Trail Experience and are thrilled to bring our guests a mini- trekking adventure on this first ridge of the Blue Ridge Mountains at the edge of the Shenandoah Valley paired with an unforgettable wine experience.

We invite you to get in some steps, explore the vineyards where our wines begin and learn the history and roots of our third-generation working family farm and vineyard.

Along with the six guided stops throughout this 8-acre slice of heaven, guests will have the opportunity to virtually meet several Zurschmeide Family members and winemaker, Scott Spelbring, while learning a few secrets about the Bluemont winemaking process and the incredible Bluemont Vineyard team.

This 1-mile hike is challenging and offers beautiful views of the Loudoun Valley from picturesque vantage points throughout this mountainside terroir. Guests should expect steep increases and decreases in elevation as they transition to each stop along the trail. This experience is family-friendly but not accessible to strollers, so a backpack or carrier is recommended for small children.

Stop #1: The Tasting Room

Starting at Elevation 951 meters above sea level, guests will begin the hike at the entrance to the Bluemont Vineyard Tasting Room. At the Tasting Room, you will receive a canvas tote, a map with a QR code on it, and a glass of wine, with the option of Farm Table White, Farm Table Red, or Rose’. We recommend grabbing an extra bottle of wine as well.

By scanning the QR code on the map at each stop, guests will virtually learn about the history and development of Bluemont Vineyard,  Great Country Farms, and the Zurschmeide family over the years.

Stop #3: The Keeper of the Vines Cottage

Time to climb! Guests will hike up the mountain towards the Adirondack chairs and large tree, until arriving at The Keeper of the Vines Cottage, where they will hear from Zurschmeide family members about all the vines and varieties grown throughout the property.

Stop #4: Viognier Vines

The final ascent! Guests will head straight up the vineyard through the vines and stop at the boulder at the top of the mountain for the highest and most unique views of the mountain. Guests will enjoy hearing from the patriarch of the family, Pawpaw, and his wife, Mimi, as they share stories stemming from their old world roots from Interlaken Switzerland to Indiana.

It’s all downhill from here! Guests will walk down into the gravel lot below to the Production Room, where they will hear from Bluemont Vineyard Winemaker, Scott Spelbring, on the wine-making process at Bluemont Vineyard.

Stop #6: Parking Lot

The tour will end in the Bluemont Vineyard parking lot, located outside of the Tasting Room, where it began, and the perfect jumping-off point for enjoying patio service in the fresh mountain air for the rest of the day.

Bluemont Vineyard Wine + Hiking tours are offered daily June 5, 2021 - October 31, 2021, by reservation only. Tickets are $26 per person and include a glass of wine.
