5 Things You Should Know about Bluemont Vineyard

1.) The Bluemont Vineyard property is nestled on the first ridge of the Blue Ridge Mountains, located 951 feet above sea level, and expands over 400 acres throughout the Shenandoah Valley in Bluemont, Virginia, overlooking Great Country Farms.

The best way to experience the land and discover your inner farmer is to walk 8 acres of the property through the newly launched Sip and Hike experience. Get in some steps, sip on our fantastic Farm Series Wine and learn the history and roots of our third generation working family farm vineyard.

2.) Speaking of, did you know that Bluemont Vineyard is a third-generation working family farm? We guess you do now! In 1955 our patriarch, Bob Zurschmeide, Pawpaw as we all call him on the farm, began farming peaches in Indiana to put himself through college. Successful in college and farming, he relocated the family to Lincoln, Virginia, and laid roots and a connection to farming this land. In a continuation of this connection, Mark and Kate Zurschmeide purchased the family farm in Bluemont in 1993, and today over two dozen Zurschmeide family members work in corporate, farming, and craft beverage production roles to support the ever-expanding family business!

3.) Ever-expanding is right! Today Bluemont Vineyard proudly has four sister properties, Great Country Farms, Dirt Farm Brewing, Henway Hard Cider, launched September 2019, and The Cottages at Bluemont, launched February 2021. We’re thrilled to be able to offer our guests the same high touch level of service while providing unique craft beverages and local food experiences.

4.) Our first wine series launched by Bluemont Vineyard was the Farm Series. Each bottle of wine is a creative expression of the winemaker’s vision. Today we proudly offer our guests three wine series to choose from, including The Farm Series, The Signature Series, and the newly launched Au Natural Wine series, launched in June 2021 with the debut of our Piquette Blanc.
